Unbottle terms of use

Last updated 31 July 2026

Unbottle is an iPhone app made by Serhii Alpieiev. By installing or using it you agree to these terms. Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your copy; where these terms are silent, it governs.

The morning-after estimator is not a breathalyser

It produces an estimate — a deliberately cautious one — of whether alcohol is likely still in your body. It is arithmetic on numbers you typed, not a measurement of you, and individual variation is large.

Never use it to decide whether you can drive, ride, fly, operate machinery, work, or do anything else where being impaired matters. It reports no legal threshold and no "safe" figure, and no reading it can produce should be treated as permission. Only time makes you sober.

Unbottle is not medical care

The app offers general information and habit support. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis and it is not a substitute for a doctor, a nurse or a therapist. Using it creates no clinician–patient relationship.

Stopping heavy drinking abruptly can be dangerous. Alcohol withdrawal can cause serious medical complications and sometimes requires supervision. If you drink heavily every day, or you have had withdrawal symptoms before, talk to a doctor before you stop. The app says so during setup where its questions suggest a risk, and it will not recommend a goal until you have read that warning — but it cannot assess you, and its questionnaire is a screening tool, not a diagnosis.

If you are in crisis or think this is a medical emergency, call your local emergency number. The app is not monitored and cannot help in an emergency. The support page lists helplines.

Your licence

You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Unbottle on Apple devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. You may not copy, sell, sublicense, reverse engineer or try to extract the source of the app, except where the law expressly permits it.

Your data

What you log is yours. The privacy policy lists every field that is stored, including the body weight the estimator needs, and who processes it. You can export your whole history or delete all of it from Settings → Data — free, at any time, with no subscription and no request to anyone. Deletion is permanent.

Subscriptions

Unbottle's core costs nothing and always will: drink logging, the dry-day counter, money and calories saved, the calendar with past-day editing, the morning-after estimator, the free craving tools, the pledge, the check-in, export and deletion. Unbottle Pro adds the tailored notification program, the health recovery timeline, the extra craving tools, the taper plan and check-in history.

Acceptable use

Do not use the app to break the law, to interfere with its infrastructure, to try to reach another person's data, or to submit content that infringes someone's rights. Access can be withdrawn where these terms are being broken.

No warranty, and the limits of liability

Unbottle is provided as it is. There is no promise that it is free of defects, that it will be available without interruption, that a notification will always arrive, or that any particular outcome — sobriety, cutting down, saving money — follows from using it. To the extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost data, or for any decision you make on the basis of information in the app, including any reading of the morning-after estimator; and total liability is limited to what you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing here affects your statutory consumer rights.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the app changes. The date at the top moves when they do, and continuing to use the app after a change means accepting it. A change that reduces your rights will be described plainly rather than quietly folded in.
